Local racing at GMR starts April 17

4 04 2011

Hello Vancouver area racers,

The 2011 race season is finally here! Our first “local” race (not part of the Cascadia Cup Series – See our website) is on April 17 at Greg Moore Raceway. We will be racing with, but not against, the Pacific Coast Mini Roadracing Club which includes Supermoto, Mini GP, Pocket Bikes and of course Scooters. Gates open at 8:00 and the track goes hot at 9:00.

The first race of the year usually drags out a bit in the morning with registration so be prepared to fill out some paperwork. All racers are required to have a Canadian Motorcycle Association yearly membership which is $70. The application and fees will be filled out and collected at the same time registration and track fees are collected. The track fees will most likely be $60-$80 for the day. BE SURE TO BRING CASH as debit and credit card transactions may not be available.

After registration there will be a practice period which will most likely be an hour or two. This may be split up into large and small bikes or youth and adult depending on the turnout. Scooters will be practicing with the Supermoto and Mini GP. This is a great time to get to know the track and make minor tweaks to your bike. Practice time is limited so save the time consuming things like engine rebuilds and whatnot for the period between races. Following the practice there will be a short riders meeting then racing will start. We don’t want this meeting to drag out so we will have our own riders meeting for any new racers to go over things such as flags, starting, safety and whatnot while we are waiting for our race to start. All new racers should read the entire FAQ page on our website before racing.

During the off season we had discussed having a practice day before the first race. We haven’t been able to set this up so far because there has not been a track manager until now. From here on out anyone can show up and pay the daily fee ($60 + tax) from Wednesday to Saturday (Saturdays to be confirmed) and practice all day. I know it’s leaving it a bit late but I would propose having an organized practice on the Friday before the race (weather permitting). I know I need to spend some serious test and tune time on my new race bike so I would be willing to meet up if others are interested. Please email me at angus@pacificscooterracing.com or post a reply if you are into it. If it doesn’t work out then most likely we can organize a better time before the next race in May. Or you can just show up whenever you want and get some practice time in. For more info check out www.westcoastkartclub.com.

See you at the track!

Angus
